The Renaissance: Rebirth of Humanist Ideals

The Process

Prior to Visiting Library:
Create accounts at United Streaming and VoiceThread; practice using both of these tools and listen to necessary tutorials. For instance, check out this VoiceThread about VoiceThread.

Library Day 1: Complete a "close looking" exercise to begin to understand the differences between the medieval and Renaissance outlooks on the world.
View video on same topic. HW: Finish outlining text that provides general background on the Renaissance.

Library Day 2: We'll walk through the wiki and create accounts at United Streaming and VoiceThread. While we're assisting some students at the computers, others will continue reading and taking notes on the articles provided to them with the Da Vinci graphic organizer.

HW: Locate at least one image related to your group's topic and email to Ms. Alfano (msalfano@yahoo.com). In the subject line, write your class and your group number. For instance, write "901 - Group 2." MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE CITATION FOR THE IMAGE. (Tip: United Streaming provides citations for you - Google does not.) You may select an image from United Streaming, the EBSCO database, the Grolier database, or from any of the websites listed on the pathfinder page. Also, write a brief (1-3 sentences) explanation of why you are considering using this image in your project.

Library Day 3 : We'll examine samples of projects created on VoiceThread and view a brief tutorial. We'll demonstrate the process of storyboarding as well. HW: Research, images selection, begin storyboarding. REMEMBER: As you find images you'd like to use, save them to a folder you've created on your flash drive. It is also possible to scan and save images from books. Do not forget to document sources, because all of them will be cited.

Library Day 4 : Research, image selection, storyboarding.

Using the information you gathered, tell the story of your topic in an interesting and informative manner, When read aloud, the "script" should be 3-5 minutes in length. Be sure to creatively incorporate the background research you did on your topic and make sure to analyze and script this information in a way that summarizes and makes it your own. Ms. Alfano and Ms. Bayer will be around to check in with the storytelling process. You may not get further than this step, because it is the most important step in the process.

Begin to assemble your final product in Voicethread (www.voicethread.com) You must open an account in Voicethread and then you can create your project by uploading the images you saved in your folder. You should then order them to fit your script and take the time to add any title or data slides, including works cited (all created in PowerPoint and save as jpeg's). Once you've ordered your images, you can "Comment" by clicking on each image and recording the section of script that accompanies it. It will save automatically, but don't worry if you mess up. It's easy to rerecord the narration if you want to do so. Once you've finished your presentation, "Share" with Ms. Alfano and Ms. Bayer by ading us as friends to view your voicethread.
